About Us

Barry’s Buns is a family owned business operated by Joel (aka Barry) and his wife, Jen. Joel utilizes his expertise in the kitchen and heads up recipe development and production, while Jen handles all marketing, brand development, event planning, and business administration.

Joel was born a baker. He started his own cheesecake business when he was 14 years old. During high school, he took first place in a culinary competition winning a scholarship from Careers Through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) to attend Johnson & Wales University in Rhode Island. Joel graduated with a degree in Pastry Arts and was most recently the Regional Bakery Associate Coordinator of Whole Foods Market for the Mid-Atlantic Region. His formal career in pastry began at the Pennsylvania Convention Center and was also the Assistant Pastry Chef at The Rittenhouse Hotel under Executive Chef Jean Marie LaCroix.

It has always been a lifelong goal for Joel to have his own place and sticky buns have always been a favorite of Joel’s since childhood. His fondest childhood memory is that of his dad regularly bringing home sticky buns for the family. Additionally, his dad, for many years before his recent passing, had his own business in a farmer's style market. Joel loved the atmosphere and helping his dad take care of the customers, so when the opportunity arose for a location within the MARKET at the Fareway (2017 Best of Philly Food Destination) in the Chestnut Hill neighborhood of Philadelphia, it was a sign that now is the time for Joel to open his own bakery.

These are the current soft opening hours. Hours to be extended in the near future with the official Grand Opening of the Bourse Marketplace.

Monday – Friday: 7:30 am to 6 pm
Saturday: 7:30 am to 5 pm
Sunday: 9 am to 5 pm

Market at the Fareway: We are proud to be one of the vendors that makes the MARKET a 2017 Best of Philly Food Destination! Our address is Germantown Avenue; however, the MARKET is not directly on Germantown Avenue; it is directly behind the Chestnut Hill Hotel. There is a free parking lot on Southampton Avenue (across from Jenks John S School).

Bourse Marketplace: We are located in the new food hall within the historic Bourse building, which has been fully restored. We are stall #27 and are right across from Marino Brothers Cheese Steaks. There is a parking garage right next to the Bourse building and if you are lucky there is metered parking surrounding the area (free on Sundays!).
